Are spa heaters and heat pumps easy to install?

Your spa heater or heat pump should be fitted by a qualified electrician, pool or spa technician only. Spa Store and Spa World will not be liable for incorrect installation, damage or injury caused by an unqualified person installing any components on your spa.

What kw Heat Pump do I need for my spa?

It will depend on the size and water capacity of your spa what size heat pump you'll need. As a general guideline, a small spa pool (up to 2500 litres) may require a 5.5kW heat pump, while a medium-sized spa pool (2500 to 7000 litres) will need an 8kW heat pump. Larger spa pools and swim spas (over 7,000 litres) may require a heat pump with a kW rating of 12 or higher.

What Heat Pumps are compatible with what spa models?

All Vortex ™ and Fisher™ Spa models are compatible with heat pumps. However, not all spas are set up to work with heat pumps. To be safe, if you are interested in another spa brand, we recommend asking the retailer if the spa can be equipped with a heat pump.

How far distance can a heat pump be from spa

Your heat pump comes with a 5m power cable and a data cable. Both cables need to be connected to the spa’s controller at the time of installation. The heat pump needs to be installed so that it can reach between the heat pump and the spa controller. For this reason, we suggest installing the heat pump no more than 3m from the spa’s controller. You will need to factor in the complete cable run as this may increase the distance between the heat pump and spa.

What is the required clearance around the heat pump?

Heat pumps must be installed outdoors to ensure proper air circulation through the evaporator. Both the front and back of the unit require unobstructed airflow due to the high volume of air moved. When placing in confined areas such as pits or under decks, provide sufficient space for ventilation.

For SpaNET™ SV Series heat pumps, maintain:

  • 300mm clearance at the back

  • 700mm on each side

  • 2.5m to the front of the unit.

See the manufacturer's image below for an example:

For SpaNet™ Eco Cube heat pumps, maintain::

  • 300mm clearance at the back

  • 500mm on each side

  • 2.0m to the front of the unit

Consult the manufacturer's guidelines for specific clearance requirements or your heat pump model.

What is the difference between the SpaNet® Hybrid & Power Save Heat Pump modes?

The Hybrid Heat pump mode refers to when you are using the heat pump on its own to heat spa water.
The Hybrid Heat pump with Power Save mode refers to when your heat pump and SpaNet® internal heater element are working together to heat your water.  This function only works on spas that have the Spanet® control box, touch pad and internal heater element.

How do I connect a heat pump to the SpaNet SV2 controller?

The Spa Net SV2 controller doesn't have enough plug inlets to run the heat pump. This means the heat pump requires a separate power supply with a junction box.

Will the SpaNet® SV Heat Pump work in my spa/swim spa?

The SpaNet® SV Heat Pump will only work with SV Spa Controllers.
If you have a different brand of controller, a Universal Spa Heat Pump is available option.

Does the Universal Heat Pump connect to the Spa Controller?

A universal heat pump is designed to work with most portable spas/swim spas and is controlled by its own onboard thermostatic control. As such, it does not connect to your existing controller.

Can I use Purezone™ filters in conjuction with my heat pump?

No, the Purezone Filters are not compatible with Heat Pumps, as they slow the flow of the water too much for the heat pump to work effectively. You can tell a purezone filter by it's 'honeycomb-like' pattern.

How to turn off the external heat pump in winter

If you just want to turn off the external heat pump you can do this via the settings. Press the UP and DOWN arrow until you see MODE. Press the DOWN arrow until you see H.PMP. Press OK. Press the Up or DOWN arrow to find OFF. Press OK. It should show H.PMP again. Press the UP arrow until you see EXIT. You have now successfully turned off the external heat pump.

Note: We do not recommend, turning the spa off during the winter. You can put the spa in AWAY mode so water continues to filtrate and does not freeze.
